Deliberative democracy is a political model generated on the basis of the characteristics of the Western political system. However, socialist deliberative democracy with Chinese characteristics is an important component of people’s democracy in China, which has such special connotations as the adherence to the Party’s leadership, the people as masters of the country, and the orientation of public interest. Moreover, China’s socialist deliberative democracy is characterized with obvious collectivism, direct participation, equal-status interaction, full exchange of views, extensive presentation of the people’s interest and result orientation. And meanwhile, China’s current practice of deliberative democracy has such problems as pure formalism, misunderstanding, lack of communication, and weak consulting ability. In order to perfect socialist deliberative democracy in China, we should make efforts to establish a deliberative democratic system, improve the deliberative mechanism, develop the deliberative ability, and make innovations in deliberative democracy.
