Abstract
Scholarly prefecture chief(文章太守)refers to a prefect(郡守)who was skilled in poem and prose creation, and characterized with his profound knowledge, quick thinking, elegant style and proper diction. Scholarly prefecture chief was a common idea in the Song Dynasty, first proposed by Ouyang Xiu (欧阳修) and closely related to the civil service system of the Song Dynasty. It was not only a classic summary of the atmosphere of the Song Dynasty in which articles were used to praise a prefect, but also an inevitable result of the merging tendency of politics and literature in the Song Dynasty. At that time, prefects were generally skilled in poem and prose writing, which was the best footnote of the idea of “scholarly prefecture chief”. Scholarly prefecture chief fully shows the close relationship between prefect and literature, and provides a theoretical basis for the study of the relationship between prefect and literature in the Song Dynasty.
